Personal Profile

Arriving in Calgary, David worked for an international company in the Audit Department. In this role, he traveled extensively, including trips to Texas and Saudi Arabia. After a couple of years, however, the novelty of the travel wore off and David worked as the Internal Auditor for Calgary Co-op for five years.

David had always enjoyed working with small companies and individuals, and he wanted to get back into this. In 1988, he left the Co-op and did contract audit work for a number of different companies throughout Alberta and the Northwest Territories. In 1990, he had an opportunity to buy into an accounting practice run by Robert L. Jones. Many present clients were "Bob's" clients originally.

Bob has since retired but David still works with Bob's long-time assistant, Marlene Lynge.

David is married to Marlyn Paris-Townsend formerly of Cheadle, Alberta. They have no children - dependents consist of a large dog and two cats.

Personally, David enjoys running. He has completed several marathons, most recently in July 2005. He likes to think he's not too old to try another one. He is also active in the Rotary Club of Calgary Sarcee, Rotary Challenger Park and Lakeview United Church. He is a former Board director of Rotary Challenger Park and the Calgary Block Watch Council. He and Marlyn also square dance regularly.

On a professional level, David is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, the Entrepreneurial CA's of Calgary and the Financial Planners of Calgary. He has volunteered on various committees for these organizations and has written several articles on small business and financial planning.
