David grew up in Fredericton, N.B. where he received his CA designation. He moved to Calgary in 1980 and enjoys the fast-paced entrepreneurial environment, but still makes frequent trips “back east” to visit family and friends.
After working for several large companies in Calgary, David took over an accounting practice from Robert L. Jones. He still works with some clients who were with Bob originally and in many cases, is now working with the next generation. Bob passed away several years ago, but Marlene Lynge (Bob’s long-time assistant) worked with David up until 2018.
David is married to Marlyn Paris-Townsend of Cheadle, Alberta. Dependents are of the four-legged variety and usually consist of at least one cat and dog.
David has served in many different community organizations, including the Rotary Club of Calgary Sarcee, Rotary Challenger Park and Calgary Block Watch Council.
He and Marlyn are members of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where David helps on the Finance Committee. They have also square danced for many years with Dots & Dashers Square Dance Club and have served on the club executive.
Professionally, David is a member of the Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta. He has volunteered on various committees for the Institute and served on the board of the Entrepreneurial CA’s of Calgary. He has also written articles for the Institute and Moneysaver Magazine.
