David received his CA designation in 1976 in Fredericton, N.B. He moved to Calgary in 1980 to pursue the opportunities in the west and although he still misses the Maritimes, he enjoys the fast-paced entrepreneurial Calgary spirit.
David had always enjoyed working with small companies and individuals, and he wanted to get back into this. In 1988, he left the Co-op and did contract audit work for a number of different companies throughout Alberta and the Northwest Territories. In 1990, he had an opportunity to buy into an accounting practice run by Robert L. Jones. Many present clients were "Bob's" clients originally. Bob has since retired but David still works with Bob's long-time assistant, Marlene Lynge. David is married to Marlyn Paris-Townsend formerly of Cheadle, Alberta. They have no children - dependents are of the four-legged variety - one large dog and one almost as large cat. Personally, David enjoys running. He has completed several marathons, most recently in October 2010, and hopes there is at least one more in him. He has served as President of the Rotary Club of Calgary Sarcee, and as Treasurer at Rotary Challenger Park and the Calgary Block Watch Council. He is an active Rotary member and he and Marlyn attend Lakeview United Church. He and Marlyn are also active members of the Dots & Dashers Square Dance Club.
On a professional level, David is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta. He has volunteered on various committees and has written several articles on small business for the Institute. David also has served on the Board of the Entrepreneurial CA's of Calgary. |
